Well, the original sketches, along with notes and annotations I make in my observing book, they're usually pencil sketches on white paper!
Later on, at home, I re-draw each sketch as accurately as possible, as close to the original observation I can. The basis therefore is the rough sketch along with the notes. I use white pastel pencils, a white inkpen and blending stumps on black photo cardboard!
There is a great resolution possible with 8", still, I guess it also needs good observation conditions and also some experience (if I may flatter myself so far), the Globs, however, are never easy, actually, it's always a tough thing to draw them - the greater, when they come out that nice!
