Good reply mate, and sadly I have little time tonight also. Very quickly I want to say that you said that the planet is recovering from a previous cold period, I agree with that, and the fact that over 420 million years the variation is consistent, I am convinced that, that is a long enough period of time to yield definitive results.
I am at this time casting my vote on the side of the 'beat up', however, like you, if new evidence is shown, i will certainly look and re-evaluate my opinion.
