For all you spider lovers

Certainly not the weather for astronomical pursuits (solar wise) so I thought I would play around with the 400D today. The most notable subject is an Orb spider who decided to take up residence on our front verandah. A couple of weeks ago she was about a quarter this size. You may notice that the male, albeit much smaller, is hovering around playing his usual deadly game of you know what. I think the female usually prevails and he ends up as her meal.

The first and last pics were taken with the standard 18mm-55mm lens supplied with the camera and are quite sharp. This lens is way sharper than the same spec lens supplied with my 350D which I never ended up using for this reason. Funny how the two lenses differed in quality. The middle photo was taken with an Olympus 135mm/f5 telephoto lens which was attached to the 400D using an adaptor bought off ebay. The shot was taken about six feet away from the spider which gives some idea of how sharp these older lenses are. The pics were taken at the highest rez setting and to resize them from over 3MB's to less than 150K results in a loss of quality of course, but nonetheless, I think the results are quite good.

Cheers, Steve
