Time stamp on AVI's. Which is correct?

Ok, here is another potentially stupid question on "time" and AVI's.

When an AVI is recorded and you look at Program Explorer in Windows with the avi and the date/time that the avi was taken, is the time shown the start time of the AVI or the end time of the AVI?

This is crucial as when recording the UTC that an image is taken the half way point of the AVI must be added/subtracted to this time.

Answer?

p.s. just assume you are using an AVI recodring program that does not record the date/time in the avi file name and you must look at Program Explorer / File Manager to get that info.
