Yes, Paul, I've had similar experiences. Don't forget that Australia Post handles this end unless it's a courier delivery (e.g. FedEx).
I have used Australia Post for most of my business shipping for the last 15 to 20 years. I also have no complaints. As a general rule they are an efficient organisation. Most of my shipments are despatched via registered mail (in order that there is a tracking facility) and I've only had one (1) item go missing in all that time and even that could be put down to the fact that the organisation involved (a nation wide company) for some strange reason gave me an address that they had not occupied for over two years. Given that I send a few hundred items each year I reckon that they have a pretty good track record.
Whilst these days I use few couriers (though I used to) in the sense of losses and damage the couriers would lose by a T.K.O.
