Sortta like pet owners talking on behalf of their pets to project their (the pet owner) inner most feelings
. They would be better approaching the project to prove no water exists and that the planet is featureless, also geologically uninteresting and be pleasantly surprised by their discovery not being consistent with their preconceptions maybe
