The switch is a bit of a hassle, as you have to unbolt the wedge adaptor plate from the bottom of your LX90 to mount it in alt/az, then bolt it back on when you go back to polar. Attaching and removing the wedge is quick enough, but you'll never have very good polar alignment this way.
I bonded 3 big washers onto my driveway, so the bottom of the tripod legs always plugged back into the same spot. Once you've got your polar alignment set, it should stay pretty close.
