I guess if you grew up with the Space Race, which included the USA Mercury, Gemini and Apollo programs, you don't need proof - these events, launches and missions were indelibly etched in my mind as part of the continuum of life as I grew up. Therefore I don't have to believe - I know. I was there, at the time.
If you were born after these missions, all you have are impersonal records in the form of images, video and books.
It seems belief is very shallow and can easily be shaken.
Knowledge based on experience has a richness of content, depth and longevity that permeates the faculties and does not require belief.
