I did write a "lengthy" response Kearn soon after your post but at the last minute my computer wiped it before I sent it, I've been having K/B troubles lately.
Anyway this is the shorter version:
IP is fantastic for dealing/stacking the astro RAW files.
Where you'll find people using RAWShooter/CS1,2 is for terrestrial photography.
Here you'll find very useful tools like the vignetting tool, sharpness, Chromatic Aberration reduction etc.
All this even before converting the file to tiff.
Rawshooter is excellent, Mike loves it, I personally use CS2 but I believe now Adobe has bought the rights to R.S and will be incorperating it in it's new Light Room software.
