Argo Navis uses digital encoders to monitor the telescope movements in both Altitude and Azimuth directions. Here is the encoder kit on my 12"LB.
These are sold seperately and are avalible for just about every scope out there. Don't forget to factor in this extra money outlay for these encoders $$$.
