Sounds like localised inversions, we get them around canberra too - they show up on the weather radar as fake rain, like lots of white bubbles.
I have graphs where the temp jumps up by 2 or 3 degrees for no reason, then 20 minutes later it drops back again, as these things go over.
very annoying.
Just remember - what doesn't kill you makes you stronger :-)
