I feel your pain.
My nemesis last night wasn't fog, but smoke from a fire that started yesterday afternoon about 10km away at lake george to the east of murrumbateman - Jupiter rose striaght up through the smoke :-(
I saw the transit , thanks for clueing me in that it was Io, I haven't looked that up yet. and there was some nice detail visible on and off, but not as good as I had hoped.
