Please don't think I'm trying to undermine Hawking!!!
He has an exceptional mind! But when you push the boundaries as he does, sometimes the boundary between science and philosphy gets crossed... it's just something we have to recognise and live with until we can move the boundary out around it - by either proving or disproving the idea. Basic scientific method.
