Downstairs I have a picture on the wall of a lighthouse being battered in a storm.
It reminds me of what life is like sometimes, and how important it is to be an emotionally stable and positive influence in our children's lives.
They too suffer the emotional ups and downs of life. This is all part of growing up.
The kids will come and go into and out of your life. It is unfortunate that it probably happened too soon, and you must be like a rock in their lives and always be there for them, by keeping in contact and showing you care. Maybe you could send them small presents and txt messages (if they have mobiles). You need to be emotionally strong without becoming hard and bitter (not that I think you are).
Stay positive and occupied, and remember that everything turns out for the better, even if we don't always see it at the time. This is where a hobby like astronomy is really great, it doesn't take much to get involved and it is really a positive way to spend your time, if you can draw meaning and wonder from the cosmos around you.
cheers
