Also when you attach a router to a broadband modem that gives it an IP via DHCP, the broadband modem must be powered down for 10 seconds so its MAC address will be refreshed.

Every time a new network device is directly attached to control a broadband modem you have to reset the modem to re-validate the new MAC address of the new physical device, or alternatively tell the router to clone the old MAC address, but I believe its better power cycling the modem to improve line quality (at least every month, more often if there is alot of sunspot activity degrading line performance).
