Dennis, I have been thinking about this very thing (levelling for Alt).
The idea I came up with is to hang a plumbob from the centre of the accessory tray and have a marker at the bottom of the tripod for centre.
Only problem I can see is that even a slight breeze would make this very difficult.
I like your idea. Very inventive
