I have just been onto my insurance company this morning and have separately listed all my gear and insured and it only added about $150 to my premium. Not much extra for piece of mind.
One type of cover they mentioned and I took out as well is accidental damage which covers my gear if I trip over while carrying the scope or drop an eyepiece.
I am also covered while traveling with my gear which includes New Zealand, dont know why but it was automatically included.
The lady who helped me had a good understanding of scopes and cameras as she mentioned her boss is into astronomy and photography.
