As for the filters, the 486 is a interference filter - ie thin coatings of something that reflect the UV and IR. It's similar to the Baader (and others) UV/IR blocking filter - clear to look through but with a red to green reflection, depending on the angle.

The 489 has a slight green tinge looking through it and a colour neutral reflection.

The R72 is a IR transmitting / visible light blocking filter. In bright sunlight you can just see through it - it looks darker than at night with 1/4 moon I suppose...

The IR photos I took were at 1/320 - 1/500 second, F5.6.
