There must be another way other than a merger. Inevitably the public looses out after mergers. Competition fosters developmental inspiration and realistic pricing regimes. Mergers will often (not always) lead to reduced quality, increases in pricing and loss of real personal, domestic and national income (not how it appears on the books) . The only one's who really benefit are those that run the companies and the shareholders. In the short term that is.
