Melbourne has indeed turned it on with beautiful blue skies horizon to horizon, and with my final YR 12 exam finished yesterday i have plenty of time to muck around.
I've converted my living room into my own pesonal Solar viewing room with the curtains taped shut around around a pair of binoculars projecting a gorgeous view of the sun onto the floor of the house.
I fell for the sunspot being mercury at first too, i've never had a chance to do this before. I'm going to make sure i see the venus transit in 2012!!
