Last night I managed to capture a few images of Nova V572 Vel just before the clouds rolled in. I used my small Askar SQA55 55mm scope + monochrome camera with a V photometric filter. Using ASTAP I measured the nova to be magnitude 4.87(V) by comparing it to the nearby mag 4.90 star HR 4134.
