As I always say "Dreams are free"!
I'd be very interested in knowing which way you go with the ST4 whether you stick with USB as suggested or go for the ST4 cable.
I don't have USB control of any of my old gear, my primary camera is USB3 but has an ST4 guiding port.
As mentioned, I have some much older cameras I was kindly given before acquiring the little IMX178 Player One Neptune and I believe they may have ST4 ports.
I have all of the cables including the shoe string units but until I either get my pier in or fill the big hole back in where my mount was always set up prior to digging and leaving a big hole (with a full sized pallet covering it for safety). A combination of lousy weather and health have plagued me for a bit but my mount is a heavily modified EQ5 pro and I'd love to play with more accurate guiding than I've had in the past, except just once when the stars aligned.
I live just west of the Blue mountains in basically a crater and I can not do a 3 star alignment from my place.
I do however have a QHY Polemaster I got considerably cheap on here I've yet to try out but good alignment alone is not enough. Great start though I guess.
