Sadly Jim 'tis the way of astronomy.
I can't tell you hoaw many lunar eclipses/meteor showers I've set my gear up to image and it's rained or clouded over right as the event was about to happen and cleared up immediately after.
I actually slept in a tent in my back yard one night with my gear set up in front of the tent (housing commission area and not overly trusting of neighbours) and an alarm set to capture a lunar eclipse, only to wake to the sound of rain on the tent (something I was very familiar with because I did a lot of camping in my younger days), rushed out and pulled the mount and scope (covered thankfully as was the camera) into the tent with me and went back to sleep. The next morning was as clear as anything......
