I love photographing the birds and the colourful ones look especially nice. Though I have 5 cats (don't ask) they only spend certain times out and the birds get plenty of time to roam my long grass and mulberry tree for morning and night time (afternoon) feedings (can you believe all of the rain?).
As mentioned, they are usually quite flighty and the slightest movement and they are gone. I was shocked I got to walk down my driveway past it at no more than 3-4 feet and it stayed and fed. I left the middle section of the front yard to run the ride on over it (after my push mower died, carburettor issue now fixed), more birds and I won't have to (or go buy fuel). They love my yard, the grass is often up to 3 feet high.
