Sharkbite's advice is worth considering if you want to stick to Canon. Weight is certainly important when choosing a camera for Astro work. It looks like you should be able to grab one of these second hand for under $500. There's one selling on Gumtree in North Ryde for around that price, I'm sure you could make a reasonable offer.
