South Pole, Moretus & Clavius mosaic - R4 rocks!

Hello,

Here is a 3 pane mosaic of the lunar south pole and the craters Moretus and Clavius that I first posted in Feb 2006, processed in Registax 3 with single alignment points. With the magic of MAPs in R4, I just re-processed the avi’s and have been trying to identify the features on the profile. I think the 2 mountains top right are M1 and M3 as seen in Charles Wood’s “The Modern Moon”, Chart A on Page 127.

If the libration had been more favourable, like the image Zac posted, I would also have imaged M5, which Dr Wood states is “informally named Mount Clementine, it may be an ideal site for a future solar energy farm because it is exposed to sunlight more than 90% of the time”. Zac’s image shows both M5 and M4 as labelled in Chart A in Dr Wood’s book on Page 127.

Cheers

Dennis

PS – I am pleased that I archived my old avi’s so I can now re-visit the better ones for re-processing with R4.
PPS - R4 was able to auto-select between 30 and 50 alignment points due to the good seeing and fine detail in the 3 panes.
