Everyone wore a suit it seems ... I recall travelling to Casino with the horse and sulky and Grandfather in his suit and hat, Grandmother in a beautiful dress with a fine hat...and they were not out of place...and picked up a block of ice when leaving for the ice chest back at the farm.
AND even when I started work I wore a suit, overcoat and one of those hats...everyone who worked in an office wore a suit.
I am somewhat lucky to have experienced various "times" ....I bet there would not be many folk who were around when a horse and cart was normal in a country town.
