Hi Hans,
My parents came to Oz from the UK in 1964 or '65. I recall mum saying that they had to visit Australia House (or whatever it was called) before they could come out here.
So I'd say that the records would be kept primarily in the UK, but might also be in both places - assuming the data from the UK was also duplicated back here.
