Alex, I once had a large Canadian canoe I used for fishing. I wanted to be able to stand up while fighting a fish but that created stability problems since I also had no keel. I got around that by rigging two pontoons - one a side - a bit like a native rig that served them so well.
It was a bolt-on affair that was easily transported. Worth a thought perhaps.
