Alex, let me offer an explanation. There is such an avalanch of negativity and reproach in daily life these days that the small sparks of joy become dimmed if not extinguished. Around the country people of good heart are being assailed by the voices constantly demanding this and that or insisting that our right to call our country our own is invalid.
It is hard to focus on our small delights when we are being told we have no right to them.
