I was a late starter into motocross..I had read about moto cross in the magazines and liked the idea as I had a little dirt bike experience and raced with mates on our trail bikes...so I ordered my race bike on theTuesday, picked it up on Thursday, ran it in on Saturday came second in a hill climb club event on the Sunday.... and the first actual motocross race I had ever seen I was in it one week later on the Sunday..just a club event and I came sixth....looking back I think I was somewhat full on back then....and although I always placed well I only had two wins (at club level) in my time in the sport but went out with a good last day placing 3rd in the 250 cc (two motos) and 2nd in the 400 cc (two motos).... ( both on my 250 cc) but only at a club event...and won every start ( even beating 400cc machines to the first corner) on that day so a great way to retire as it was the best day racing I ever had I did race all the "open" events which saw riders state wide compete but never placed better than tenth...

In those days there was $100 prize money for the Australian title, and being sponsored meant the factory lent you a motor for your bike to be returned at the end of the season ...these days in USA there are events where there is one million dollars to the rider who wins all motos on the night (2)...makes me think of getting back into it...
