Rig..Askar 130, ZWO 2600 mono, OAG, filters HA and O11,

I stacked both together and used that as L and stacked each separately to combine L Ha and O11 in StarTools. I used HRD but backed off a great deal. The final image I adjusted in Photoshop. I use the dodge and burn tool to bring up features both light and dark spots ....
I tried to get more data (S11) but the Moon played havoc with my guiding so doing a decent/complete image will have to wait a while.

Alex,
6 months ago I evaluated HDR in ST 1.7 and HDR in ST 1.8 on a test object M8 Lagoon and posted my findings on the ST forum. Personally I find HDR ST 1.8 way to aggressive on large structures like M8 , even when backing off quite a bit , HDR ST 1.7 was excellent and gave far more precise control of your processing . I did receive a comment from Ivo about this and gave some advice on HDR 1.8 which did help a little bit. I rarely use HDR now and usually skip it and go straight to Sharpen. Now I only use HDR ST 1.8 on globular clusters and nebula with smallish bright cores like M17 to tame the brightness in the core areas ( not big bright large structured cores like M8 and M16 etc…)
My recent rendition of M8 in Deep Space had no HDR applied just Sharpen and SV Decon. I found skipping HDR produced a better more fine detailed result in the central core region. But I’m saying that not all data sets are the same and don’t let me sway you from using HDR , it does have a use.
I just thought I would share my experiences with HDR

Best always
Martin
