Thanks Bob. Yes, I agree with your comments. The first was taken earlier than the second one, when the moon was higher in the sky. I was using a modded DSLR, which has a tendency to cause a red hue. This needs to be corrected in post processing but in this case I probably didn't go far enough. I also think there is a 'moonset effect' as the moon descends into the earth''s murky atmosphere, turning the sky red, similar to a sunset.
