aurora from ardrossan

Following on from Paul's thread, the attached low quality composite image was obtained from Ardrossan SA on the evening of the 24th. The intense aurora that Paul recorded the previous night was on its last legs (Kp was about 4), but there was still some residual red activity to the south (over the bright lights of the little coastal hamlet of Black Point). There was also some green coming in from the southeast over the top of the Adelaide light dome. Almost all of the auroral light was only visible to averted gaze as a slight instability in the sky brightness - nothing to see really. There was one major burst to the SSW that was marginally visible, but it was over before I slewed the camera around.

Have now ordered a fixed lens that is faster than the kit lens (and that stays in focus) and will also need a more sensitive camera. Nonetheless, even though I must apologise for the poor quality of this effort, it was good to record some auroral light from up here.

Cheers Ray
