Any of the cheap cardboard solar filters with EC rating are very safe.
In the reported papers they mention a guy, a "Hippie", who looked at the Sun directly up to 30 min a day as part of his "looking for solar guidance".....
Nothing whatsoever about looking at the eclipsed sun for a second or so and NO evidence that the current approved solar glasses are unsafe.
