That is one impressive photo, Hans. And well put, I concur with your comments. It can be argued that Lucas went overboard, but he did state that he felt he had reached the limits of what he wanted to do and CGI gave him the ability to move forward.
CGI has now reached the point that it's possible to create the visuals in SF stories that once were the stuff of dreams and imagination. I recently watched The Expanse on Prime and thought it was brilliant, it was great to see the worlds that were created in the books brought to life on a screen. Another one is Altered Carbon, a vastly different world but brilliantly imagined.
