I went solo in Piper Warrior VH-WHA in 1998.
The MSFS2020 is definitely the way to go!! It's got everything....
BUT
it does need a hot PC/ laptop i7 with memory, a very recent and fast video card Nvidia RTX 3050 (or better) and a large external monitor.
Never said it was cheap!!!
I had to replace my MSI hot shot, only three yo with the latest MSI RTX gaming machine, I also went for a new flight yoke, throttle quadrant and rudder pedals. (The old one's still worked but I couldn't find a buyer!!!!)
I still use the ol' Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 joystick - unfortunately MSFS haven't introduced force feedback yet but you can get a third party plug in which does give some sense of variable forces.....
