Handmade dob restoration.

Hello all, it's been a while since I've been in here.

I've recently been given a 250mm X 1200mm dob that my uncle made in the 90s. I know I could probably get something new for a good price, but he's dying of cancer so I would like to restore it and use it with my kids. Most of the restoration will be straight forward for me. However that primary is quite badly marked from years in storage, the secondary looks fine though. I don't even know where to start in restoring the mirror. I have no idea whether he hand ground it, how it was coated, or if he just bought that part. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Is this something that I can fix by hand, or would I have to send it away to get coated. As you can see from the pics it's quite a thick piece of glass.

Thanks in advance.
