I actually contacted SkyWatcher about that very issue and that was what the assistant said they did, but they also stated in the same sentence they would not recommend doing this. Typical response from a manufacturer, I have just left mine off for the moment. It does fit good until you use batteries in the mount, the clips actually fowl on the battery packs.
