Thanks for posting, an interesting historic insight to the times and the solar eclipse, to have found film of the event is a great find. Have to agree , that the sunspot you mentioned is real, not an blemish on the film.
Coincidently, today I was reading an article about the 100 year anniversary , with a few pictures , of a total eclipse that was visible from the north west coast of Australia. What was notable about the eclipse is that it was one of the first eclipses that tested Einstein's Theory of Relativity by measuring the position of stars visible near the Sun and that the light was being curved by the Suns gravity.
