Thanks for the suggestions. I have EQMOD installed...I normally run an HEQ5.
But I think I have found the culprit. I originally downloaded and used the latest SynScan Pro for Windows Version 2.0.11. I deleted that and tried the older version 1.19.20 and everything seems to be working well now.
It irks me a bit that it will only connect by initially connecting with the SynScan app and not directly via ASCOM/EQMOD, but there you go.
