I wouldn't say people should leave it for a specialist.. like you mentioned in your blog, it's a fairly easy thing to do, you just have to be careful. I've been cleaning my DSLR sensors for years (up until Canon introduced their sonic cleaning system, and now I don't bother) using the PEC Pad sensor swabs and their PEC solution, and have never had an issue.
Take your time and you'll be fine.
