What budget you are working with helps to narrow, or broaden the choices available as well. Also, what type of objects you want to observe can mean some telescopes are more suited to your needs than others. The three main categories are refractors, reflectors and cassegrain.
The retailers that Martin mentioned are reliable and there are others, like Testar, also in Sydney and several online retailers too, along with interstate stores, but then shipping costs come into play if wanting larger telescopes.
