LED's can have a long 50'000+ hour life if they're driven to spec. But most aren't. Not only do manufacturers save cost on the driver circuits, but they do on the LED die's too. They could for example use 40 LED dies at 20mA each, or 20 die's at 40mA each and get almost the same lumens, but at half the cost and much shorter life expectancy. Guess which is more attractive to the OEM bean counters.

Edit: The same was true for incandescent bulbs too, I had some very old Mirabella bulbs that were still working(before switching to LED), they were rated for 250v. Other brand bulbs used to die very quickly, often only rated for 220 or 230v.
