Lol I am still learning and its been enlightening process to go through.

Thats a good point and a way to go - working around the mirror and changing the viewing style.

Haha yah - I am hoping to get a dark sky site as the next plan to eliminate some of the issues of a large scope. I still have a bit of time with me I hope.

My reasoning is that quartz if it is available is the way to go - I just need to work the feasibility and whether I am ok to go hard on the scope that would most probably be my last large aperture scope. I can't see myself winning Tattslotto anytime soon to change this.

You could just reverse the viewing use of the proposed monster, use the last 2/3 hours of astro dark and that will eliminate acclimation issues pretty much... Such a scope would deserve the sleep interruption.

Then it's a matter of working out which glass is easier to work with as that will give you the best chance of the best figure.
