Over many decades of public viewing nights I have found Saturn to be the
number 1 target, usually followed by Wows!! of amazement, the bigger the scope the bigger the wow.
Close ups of the moon through a large scope no. 2, Jupiter no.3, and O.Cent. no.4.
Later in the event when the casual visitors have mostly gone home, things like showing that A.Cent. is actually two stars, the colour in M42 which most
people can see through a medium size scope, Magellanic clouds, explaining
that they are galaxies in our local group, The Jewel Box and Coal Sack,
etc: etc:
