Large sunspot Jan 30th
Jan 30th. The active region (sunspot) 2936 has increased in size dramatically as it moves westward across the sun's disc. In this image taken today (Jan 30th mid afternoon AESST). I measured its diameter (across) to be 89,750 km. This makes it one of the largest so far of cycle 25. It produced a minor M1.1 flare at the end of Jan 29th that resulted in a radio blackout affecting the Pacific Ocean region. Single exposure with a canon 550d camera attached to a 81 mm WO refractor and herschel wedge.
Thanks for viewing.
