All good (pre-fridgie) advice below. Here's another:
Turn on your mobile phone camera and look at the remote control emitter. Press buttons and look for the purple light in your phone camera preview screen. No blinking, perhaps dead remote (depending how good the IR cut filter on your phone is).
Go outside, and turn off the power isolator to the outdoor unit for an hour or 2. Flick it back on and try again. Whilst you're out there, sniff around the outdoor unit for dead (fried) gecko.
Does the indoor unit blink any LEDs briefly? My Parent's 9kw fujitsu did nothing but blink a cyptic code briefly. Google said "#2 outdoor fan error". Sure enough, bearing was seized. Changed the fan and off they went.
