Back in around 1985 or 86, Frank Herbert was over here and being interviewed on the radio, as I was driving. He was asked what he thought of Dune the movie.
He responded that when he saw it, he thought it was pretty good ..... but that the version he saw was four hours and fifty one minutes long. However, he thought the theatrical release at just over two hours was too badly cut up.
Later I read that they actually had ten hours of film from the first movie, and that they were thinking of putting it out as a mini-series. Sadly it never happened.
