Now there's a thought - what would the 'gold' of the intergalactic monetary system be?
On a universal scale it would have to be rare enough as a resource that scarcity makes it valuable, hard to make yourself and maybe be 'useful' in some way? Stability and safety could be factors too. Would antimatter held in a magnetic flask fit the bill?

I'd have to try it back to an industry I think, a raw fuel - space travel or energy generation or a rare material fundamental to a form of space travel/or a critical element in a technology we depend on.
For instance helium-3 abundant on the moon, but not on Earth and already looking like a major mineral for commercial exploration. The more bang for bucks you can store in a smaller area for your fuel supply the better, its critical for long term space exploration...
Either that or a new rare element that is required for that essential quantum bidet that we will all need.
*One countries use of rare earth elements is a good example of controlling both pricing and output of some fairly fundamental aspects of todays effluent society.
